GSMA and five nations launch ATLAS Umoja

The initiative builds on Nigeria’s N-ATLAS and aims to address a major gap: fewer than 2% of Africa’s languages receive meaningful support from current platforms. (Africa AI News)

Fincart raises $2.8M Seed for merchant platform

Google opens South Africa startup accelerator
#SouthAfrica #funding - Google opened applications on 27 July for a three-month South Africa accelerator for 15 AI-driven startups. Each selected company can receive up to R1 million in non-dilutive funding, plus Google cloud infrastructure, Gemini tools and specialist mentoring. iHUB backs 12 Kenyan edtech startups

Oracle prepares for Nairobi cloud region
#Kenya #cloud - Oracle convened a sovereign cloud summit in Nairobi on 29 July ahead of its planned Kenyan cloud region. Hosted at iXAfrica’s NBOX1 campus, the facility is expected to deliver more than 20MW of IT capacity and support high-density AI workloads. Oracle has not announced a commercial launch date. Morocco signs Vertiv infrastructure MoU
#Morocco #datacetnres - Morocco’s digital ministry has signed an MoU with Vertiv covering cloud, AI, high-performance computing, data centres, power and cooling. Wingu expands Dar es Salaam data centre
#Tanzania #datacentres - Wingu Africa is expanding its Dar es Salaam data centre with white space, high-power racks, reinforced power and cooling, and interconnection rooms. IUCEA launches East Africa university AI network

UNESCO trains 32 Zanzibar officers in AI skills
#Tanzania #education - UNESCO trained 32 Zanzibar correctional officers in AI skills during a 14–16 July programme. Sessions covered prompt engineering, AI-assisted research, responsible use, manipulated-media detection, and offline AI tools. Tunisia tests AI drones for crops and fires
